Yes, success is sweet and victory is even sweeter. Although it was only a 3rd prize, and we didn’t rank in the top 2, it was still sweet victory.
Final round of judging I would say is quite confusing, blurry and a whole new fresh experience, and it certainly gave us more insights on GM, and the judges did help alot on the knowledge part.
The whole GM project was a little rush, with us neglecting it a little at the start of the june holidays, not really bothering about it, then after that realising its deadline, and the starting to work at it at vivian’s house, which was considered a complete failure. We all learnt from our mistakes, then proceeding to 2nd round of filming, sourcing for places to work at it, to get interviews, getting people to be surveyed, then most importantly, work on the whole making of the product, which happens to be..like a roller coaster. Files were always lost and bugging vivian certainly helped alot! So we edited the clips, cut them short, tried very hard to put them together, planned on the structure of the video, and then rushing like mad dogs at night trying to get people like Min Pei to help to do the frames of the titiles like Myth 1 Fact 1 etc. etc. Deadlines constantly were pushed back and soon after each day the product was being cut, combining, tough searching of suitable sound clips and never ending of publishing the videos (which always took really long), the waiting for the videos to be published and saved, the uploading of the videos which took ages as well, then soon realisation that there’s something wrong in it, and editing must be done again, and often editing is tough as you move one clip, the others all get shuffled and you have to get them all in place. On the second last night, we were aware of the lighting in the room as well as the muffled sounds, so vivian and I had to call for urgent meeting immediately the next day, and thanks dad for driving vivian and I to complete the production, and rush camcording at the market, the script holding, pointers and everything. Then vivian and I had to stay for the entire after noon just to complete it, rehearse the saying of the facts, and voice recording was tedious as the camcorder was not working really well. Then through the whole night till 2am-3am the completion and the final uploading of the video, and finally the sudden horror of not putting disclaimer right at the start and had to immediately insert it, publish it again and finally saved it into the floppy disk and the delivery of the product. It all takes alot of effort, hard work, sweat and sincerity of the team, yet the feeling is indescribable.
Although we do not have professional equipment, nor do we have camera man but just vivian wobbly holding the camcorder of hers, we still made it to the end and completed the final round of judging. All our effort was worth it. Every little try be it nicole’s attempt to video in front of her door or team work put in contributes to the success of our video, a 3rd prize video.
Most importantly, everyone who has helped us in one way or another and the support given to us be being present at the final judging today! Thank you so much.
